Krasner wins primary, but DA race may not be over

⚖️ An unexpected November rematch?

Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner cruised to victory over former municipal court judge Pat Dugan in Tuesday’s Democratic primary.
But he may need to beat his challenger again this fall to secure another term.
Krasner got 61% of the vote earlier this week. But Dugan still has a path to the general election ballot: Philly Republicans, who do not have a DA candidate, initiated a write-in campaign encouraging GOP voters to nominate Dugan.
The strategy: If Dugan gets 1K certified GOP write-in votes, he qualifies as the party’s candidate through a loophole in the state’s “sore loser” law, which blocks primary losers from jumping affiliations for the general election. All indications are he will get enough votes to qualify.
The GOP’s thinking: Dugan, a former Army veteran who has blasted Krasner’s progressing approach to criminal justice, would be an underdog in the general election. But he would one with a puncher’s chance given the entire electorate can vote. Plus more money than usual could be spent on his candidacy given it is an off-year race.
The reality: Dugan has repeatedly said he will not accept the GOP nomination and he had nothing to do with the write-in campaign.
