Eagles' White House visit creates a stir

This week's Philly Daily newsletter

Welcome back to Philly Daily’s weekly newsletter! The city has seen some big winners lately — a $1M Powerball ticket was sold at the ShopRite of Oxford & Levick for the April 23 drawing while a Philly resident recently won almost $200K playing the state lottery's online Interstellar Blast Invasion game.

In this week's newsletter ...

Everything outside of it, though? Not so much.

The Birds’ first-ever visit to see President Donald Trump at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue — remember, they were disinvited in 2018 after winning Super Bowl LII — was always going to be a hot topic. But things really got spicy.

Saquon Barkley played a pre-visit round of golf with the president and hitched a ride on Marine One. His actions drew criticism and he then fired back at said critics.

Most of the Eagles attended the event, but a few notable names were missing. Chiefly Jalen Hurts, a development that likely sparked far more discourse than any other supposed “scheduling conflict” in history.

Here is a list of all the coaches and players who were accounted for in Washington.

🚨 ‘Angel of Death’ shot, charged in incident

James Short | Philly Daily

A Philadelphia man allegedly claimed to be an “angel of death” as he terrorized a Bucks County community before being shot by police.

William Francis Campbell, 50, was charged with two felony counts of burglary, felony aggravated assault and felony criminal trespassing and other related misdemeanors. Bail was set at 10% of $250,000 and he was arraigned from his hospital bed after being transported by helicopter to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center.

Campbell is accused of being involved in a single-car crash in Buckingham, then leaving his van and threatening citizens with a metal chain. He was also observed by responding cops to have a box cutter.

Campbell took his pants off during the incident and was hit by a police officer’s taser, but he removed the probe from his body. Campbell then moved toward a retreating cop while brandishing the box cutter and was shot three times.

Police found controlled substances in Campbell’s pants. He has several past criminal convictions, including one for misdemeanor terroristic threats in Philly in 2012.
